Swimmers Compete in Green Gold Meet

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU swimming and diving team kicked of the 2010-11 season this morning when they competed against each other in the annual Green/Gold Meet from the PEIF Pool.

Gaby Alzaga won four races for the Green team as they went on to beat Gold 88-84. Alzaga competed in the 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard individual, 100 yard backstroke and the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Lindsay Stedman also contributed to the Green victory, winning two individual races and three relays. Stedman won the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle and was also on the 200 yard medley relay and 400 yard freestyle relay teams.

Lauren Cockels won two individual races (50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle) and was a member of two second place relay finishes (200 yard medley relay, 400 yard freestyle).

Team captain Kelli Vander Baan won the two diving events for the Gold squad. She scored a 248.50 in the one meter dive and a 265.00 in the three meter dive.

Gold members Gena Haas won the 100 yard butterfly and Olga Budiansky won the 100 yard breaststroke.

Next weekend the Wildcats travel to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
