Soccer Looks to Bounce Back
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU soccer team will try to get back to its winning ways with a four game road trip starting at Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 15) and Ferris State on Sunday (Oct. 17).
The ‘Cats didn’t score a goal last weekend as they lost their first two games of the season to Findlay (1-0) and Tiffin (2-0).
The top six teams in each region advance to the NCAA tournament. NMU is currently ranked No. 5 in the Midwest Region.
Grand Valley State (11-1-1, 8-1-1 GLIAC) is ranked No. 3 in the nation and at the top of the Midwest Region. NMU defeated the Lakers (1-0 OT) on September 19 in Marquette for their only loss of the season. The Lakers lead the GLIAC averaging 4.0 goals per game.
Ferris State (6-5-2, 6-3-1 GLIAC) started the season losing four in a row but has won five of the last seven. Freshman goalkeeper Rachel McCollum is the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week after posting two shutouts last weekend on 12 saves.
NMU senior Dana Stephens has a team-high eight goals on the season while teammate, Junior Amelia Johnson, has six. As a team NMU has 18 on the season. Jessica Baker’s goal-against average is now 0.71 with her save-percentage .900.
Friday’s game at Grand Valley starts at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday’s game at Ferris State is at noon.
