COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team kept its winning streak intact with a three-set win over Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon. NMU took the match in a little over an hour (25-12, 25-20, 25-20). The Wildcats improve to 15-0 overall on the season and 11-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. Ohio Dominican is now 5-10 and 1-9 respectively.
The 14th ranked ‘Cats were led by Sami Vierk with 12 kills as teammate Kalli Herron added 11. As a team NMU had 42 kills in 124 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .177. Abby Lovell added 34 assists in the win. NMU’s side out percentage was 84 percent in the first set (11-13), 44 percent in the second set (9-20) and 61 percent in the third set (13-21).
On the defensive front the ‘Cats were led by Becca Feuerherd with 19 digs as Ana Lopes added 10. At the net the ‘Cats recorded two block solos and 12 block assists. Vierk had four block assists to pace the ‘Cats. Herron tallied four of NMU’s nine service aces for the match with Lopes adding three.
NMU will play at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill next week (Oct. 15-16).
