MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 19 ranked NMU soccer team (6-0-4, 6-0-2 GLIAC) plays two home games this weekend against Findlay on Friday (Oct. 8) and Tiffin on Sunday (Oct. 10).
The ‘Cats 10 game unbeaten streak continued last week as the Wildcats beat Lake Erie 4-2 on Friday and tied Ashland 1-1 Sunday. Amelia Johnson and Dana Stephens each scored twice on Friday. Johnson scored the lone Wildcat goal on Sunday. Jessica Baker and Dana Bush combined for the win at Lake Erie and Baker was in goal against Ashland. Johnson was named in the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll.
NMU climbed NSCAA’s Top 25 poll this week with a No. 19 ranking. Last week the ‘Cats broke into the top 25 at No. 21.
The Wildcats continue to lead the GLIAC standings as individual players continue to shine. Kari Buckel leads the GLIAC in assists (6). Jessica Baker is second in the GLIAC in save percentage (.921), goals against average (0.56) and saves (70). Dana Stephens is second in goals scored (8) and total points (18). Amelia Johnson is third in goals scored (6).
Tiffin beat Findlay last week 2-0. Findlay is 4-3-2 overall and 4-3 in the GLIAC. The Oilers are led in points by Sarah Silone who has four goals. Tiffin is 5-3-1 overall and 4-2-1. Hannah Stevens and Jenna Hornyak both have five goals for the Dragons.
Game time is set for 4:00 PM on Friday (Oct. 8) against Findlay and noon on Sunday (Oct. 10) against Tiffin.
