MARQUETTE, Mich. – The #21 NMU (6-0-3, 6-0-1 GLIAC) soccer team opened up a two game road trip with a Friday afternoon 4-2 win at Lake Erie College (2-7, 0-7 GLIAC). The Wildcats made their first trip to Jack Britt Stadium in Painesville, Ohio and made it count.
The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the game. NMU started early when Amelia Johnson scored her fourth goal of the season at the 3:24 mark off a corner kick from KC McCary. Dana Stephens made it 2-0 when she scored her GLIAC leading seventh goal of the season on a breakaway goal off a nice pass from Missy Mohr at the 9:53 mark.
Lake Erie finally scored their first goal in GLIAC play when Ally Miller scored a 15 yard shot from Robin Hames at 19:45. NMU finished off a high scoring first half with an unassisted goal from Amelia Johnson for her second goal of the game at 42:55.
The second half opened slowly as either team attempted a shot for the first 16 minutes. Dana Stephens broke through again and scored her second goal of the game on another breakaway goal after the initial shot was saved.
Lake Erie scored their second goal of the game when Misty Porter put away a pass from Ally Miller with 39 seconds left.
The Wildcats out shot Lake Erie 27-8 and had four corner kicks to Lake Erie’s one. Jessica Baker had three saves for NMU while Megan Baldacci had 10 for the Storm.
NMU now takes their undefeated record to Ashland for Sunday’s (Oct. 3) game at noon.
