Marquette, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University’s Women’s Volleyball Team (10-0) (6-0 GLIAC) starts a three game home stand and looks to remain undefeated as it hosts Northwood (Sep. 24 at 7 pm) and Lake Superior State (Sep. 25 at 1:30 pm) on Homecoming weekend at Vandament Arena.
The Wildcat volleyball team has moved up to 19th in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll. NMU received 251 points in the poll this week. Last week NMU was ranked 21st.
The Wildcats defeated Michigan Tech (3-1), Ashland (3-1) and Lake Erie (3-0) last week. Abby Lovell led the way against MTU and recorded a match-high 37 assists to go along with her 10 digs on the defensive front. Ana Lopes lead the offense with a match-high 13 kills. Emma Wolfe added 11 while teammate Sami Vierk chipped in with 10 kills.
Northwood enters the weekend 3-6 and 1-4 in GLIAC play. The Timberwolves have lost their last three matches. Sladjana Mitrovic leads the charge with a team high 134 kills, 26 service aces and 118 digs.
Lake Superior State enters the weekend with a 3-6 overall record and 1-4 in the conference. They have dropped their last four contests. Abby Shereda leads the Lakers in kills with 92.
Come out to Vandament Arena and support the undefeated Volleyball Wildcats to set off a Homecoming weekend of NMU Athletics. Friday’s match is at 7 PM and Saturday’s match is at 1:30 PM.
