MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team took about an hour Friday night to win its eighth match in a row and fourth straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest (8-0, 4-0 GLIAC). The Wildcats won the match over the Lake Erie College Storm in three straight sets (25-10, 25-12, 25-15). Lake Erie falls to 3-6 and 0-4 GLIAC.
The kills tonight were spread out among a couple of the ‘Cats. Sami Vierk and Emma Wolfe had seven each. Three ‘Cats recorded five kills each for the night as they were Ana Lopes, Kalli Herron and Katie Twardzik. As a team the ‘Cats tallied 35 for the match in 65 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .338.
Abby Lovell added 31 assists and two digs in the win. As a team the ‘Cats recorded 12 service aces with Kristin Wetzel leading the way with three. Three other ‘Cats had two service aces each (Herron, Andree Ring and Catherine Waybright). Becca Feuerherd led the defensive efforts with six digs.
At the net the team was paced by Brittany Covert and Wolfe with two block assists each.
NMU will be back on the Vandament Arena court tomorrow afternoon (Sept. 18 at 2 p.m.) against Ashland.
