Houghton, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team opened the 2010 season at the U.P. Collegiate Opener which was held at Michigan Tech.  NMU finished second in the event with 47 points as MTU won with 25 points.

Kristen Schulz led the Wildcats with a fourth-place finish as she covered the course in a time of 19:57.5.  Mandy Dye had a top 10 finish as she was ninth with a time of 20:22.3.  Right behind her were teammates Olivia Juntila (20:24.2) and Nora Kiilunen (20:27.8) in 10 and 11th respectively. 

Christina Turman was 13th (20:37.5) while teammate Rita Woitas was 14th with a time of 20:39.6.  Jordyn Ross was the final ‘Cat to score points as she was 16th (20:59.7).  Other runners for NMU included:  Jessie Krob (21:00.6), Alicia Romano (21:11.5), Karmen Whitham (21:24.0), Brittany Loomis (22:07.1), Libby Ellis (22:19.5), Kristen Hoklas (22:22.0), Katie Holoway (22:26.3), Rosie Frankowski (22:56.8) and Kelsey Noah (23:01.2).

The ‘Cats are in action next at the Lake Superior Invite which will be held Sept. 11.
