Wildcats Selected In A Tie For Third Place In Preseason Soccer Balloting

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team was projected to finish in a tie for third place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division with Northwood University.  Each team recorded 15 points in the coaches’ poll. 

The head women’s soccer coaches of the GLIAC chose Grand Valley State and Tiffin University to win the 2010 GLIAC women’s soccer North Division and South Division titles respectively, in preseason balloting.  The league’s 11 head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team.

The Lakers registered 25 points and five first-place votes.  SVSU picked up the other first-place vote and 21 overall.  After NMU and Northwood in the standings, Ferris state was picked fifth (9) followed by Michigan Tech (5).

The Dragons picked up three first-place votes and 14 overall in the balloting.  Ashland and Findlay tied for second in the South Division with 11 points each.  The Oilers picked up a first-place vote as did Ohio Dominican who was fourth in the voting with nine points.  Lake Erie was the final team in the poll with five points.

The Wildcats open up the 2010 campaign Saturday, Sept. 4 at home against Concordia-St. Paul at noon.
