MARQUETTE, Mich. – Two members of the Northern Michigan University women’s outdoor track and field team have qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships. The event will be held May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Track Complex, Charlotte, N.C.
Bailey Franklin and Krista Squiers will be representing NMU at the event. Franklin qualified in the high jump while Squiers will compete in the hammer throw. Franklin is seeded 11th while Squiers is 17th.
Franklin was recently named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Year. At the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Franklin won the triple jump, was third in the heptathlon and high jump. Franklin set a new NMU record in the high jump at the GLIAC championships with a leap of 5-6.
Squiers at the GLIAC event was second in the javelin and eighth in the hammer throw. During the first outdoor meet of the 2010 season which was held at Ripon College, Squiers set a new NMU standard in the hammer with a heave of 171-06.
