MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University announces the 2010 volleyball schedule. The Wildcats coming off a 20-12 overall slate in 2009 and an 11-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) record play 12 of its matches inside Vandament Arena. 
The season will open with the annual Green and Gold Match Friday night, Aug. 27. NMU opens the season for real the weekend of Sept. 2-4 with the Wildcat Open. The ‘Cats open up play against UW-Parkside (Sept. 2) before facing Winona State the next night (Sept. 3). NMU will play two matches against American International and UM-Crookston the final day of the open (Sept. 4).
Head Coach Dominic Yoder is looking forward to the 2010 season. “I think we have a really good competition schedule,” said Yoder. “It is going to promote our freshmen, our young mentality team. It will give them a chance to work into the teeth of the season which will be the GLIAC schedule.”     
NMU opens up conference action with a three-match road swing. It begins at Ferris State (Sept. 10), before traveling to Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 11) and Grand Valley State (Sept. 12). 
After the road swing the ‘Cats come home for a pair of matches against GLIAC newcomer Lake Erie College (Sept. 17) and Ashland (Sept. 18). After a day trip to Michigan Tech (Sept. 21) it is back home for matches against Northwood (Sept. 24), Lake Superior State (Sept. 25) and Michigan Tech (Oct. 1).
The following weekend the ‘Cats have an Ohio swing with matches at Tiffin (Oct. 8) and GLIAC newcomer Ohio Dominican (Oct. 9). NMU then will take a break from conference action with the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover (Oct. 15-16) which will be held outside Chicago in Aurora, Ill.
The ‘Cats host Ferris State (Oct. 22), Saginaw Valley State (Oct. 23) and Grand Valley State (Oct. 24) in its final home stand of the regular season. NMU closes out the regular season on the road with five matches.    First on the schedule are matches against Northwood (Oct. 29) and Lake Superior State (Oct. 30). To close out the regular season the ‘Cats take on from the GLIAC South, Hillsdale (Nov. 5), Wayne State (Nov. 6) and Findlay (Nov. 7).
