BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s outdoor track and field team finished in fourth place at the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. NMU tallied 70 points eight points ahead of fifth-place Findlay (62). Grand Valley State claimed the women’s title with 291 points.
Bailey Franklin followed her third-place performance in the heptathlon Thursday with a winning effort in the triple jump with a leap of 36-09.00. She also placed third in the high jump Friday (5-01.75). Franklin was named the GLIAC Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Year.
Catherine Angeli placed fourth in both the 100-meter and 200 dashes with times of 12.77 and 26.36 respectively. Maegan Hendershot in the 800 ran a 2:17.57 which was good for third place.
The NMU 4x100 relay of Alyssa Erspamer, Brittnee Balbierz, Angeli and Melissa Christensen finished in third place as they ran a time of 49.33. Angeli, Balbierz, Erin VanEnkevort and Hendershot were members of the NMU 4x400 relay which placed sixth with a time of 4:09.05.
Angela Leckson with a throw of 38-06.75 in the shot put was eighth.
