BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The first day of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships is completed. Four events of the heptathlon were contested Wednesday.
Two Wildcats are entered in the heptathlon. The 200-meter dash was the first event on the schedule. Bailey Franklin was fourth with a time of 26.90 while teammate Melissa Christensen was fifth (27.14). The 100 hurdles saw Franklin place fourth (15.96) with Christensen sixth (16.39).
Action then shifted to the field events. Franklin won the high jump (5-06.00) as Christensen was eighth (4-06.25). The final event of the first day was the shot put. Franklin had a throw of 31-05.25 which was good for sixth with teammate Christensen right behind her (30-07.00).
After the first day of the heptathlon, Franklin currently has 2,771 points while Christensen has 2,343. Action continues with day two competition of the heptathlon and the start of the official track and field events Thursday (May 6) with the meet wrapping up Friday (May 7).
