MARQUETTE, Mich. – With the academic year coming to an end so are the competitions for the Northern Michigan University athletic teams. This week the women’s outdoor track and field and men’s golf teams are in action.
A limited number of track student-athletes will travel to Hillsdale, Mich. to compete at the Gina Relays Saturday (April 24). Last week the team competed at the Northwood Invitational. Fine performances were turned in by Catherine Angeli, Bailey Franklin, Angela Leckson and Krista Squiers to name a few. The Wildcats have the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships just around the corner, May 5-7, at Ferris State University.
The men’s golf team will tee it up at the Fossum Invitational which is being held at Michigan State University. Action gets underway with 36 holes Saturday (April 24) which will be followed by 18 holes Sunday (April 25). The squad will have its final competition of the year, May 3-5, at the super regional.
Saturday night (April 24) the NMU Sports Hall of Fame will induct four new members in the Great Lakes rooms of the University Center. A social hour beginning at 6 p.m. will kick off the evening which will then be followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m. The Sports Hall of Fame ceremony is being held in conjunction with the Student-Athlete Awards Banquet.
