MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Sports Hall of Fame will induct four new members Saturday, April 24 in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center. A social hour beginning at 6 p.m. will kick off the evening which will then be followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m. The Sports Hall of Fame ceremony is being held in conjunction with the Student-Athlete Awards Banquet.
The second inductee to the NMU Sports Hall of Fame is Monica (Hayes) Todd. She was a four-time letterwinner for the NMU women’s swimming and diving team (1984-87), Todd was a member of the NCAA Division II National Champion 200-yard freestyle relay team in 1987. She was an NCAA Division II All-American all four years at NMU.
According to NMU head swimming and diving coach Bob Laughna, Todd was a top eight single-season scorer and a top 10 career scorer for the ‘Cats. “Monica was a very dedicated swimmer and was voted by her teammate to receive the Most Improved Award in 1985,” said Laughna.
