Men's Basketball 2009-10 Wrap-up

 

MARQUETTE, Mich. -The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team closed out the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 11-15 and 8-14 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), for a fifth-place finish in the conference standings.    
Marc Renelique led the team in scoring with 17.3 points per game ranking him fifth in the GLIAC while teammate, Raymont McElroy was second on the team and eighth in the GLIAC with 16.9 points per game.
As a team, the ‘Cats shot the ball above 45 percent (644-1410, 45.7), good for second overall in the GLIAC.  NMU also shot the ball a little over 35 percent from three-point land (174-489, 35.6) which ranked seventh in the conference. McElroy led the ‘Cats in field goals with 160 while Renelique had a team-high 77 three-point field goals.
NMU averaged a little over 33 rebounds per game (33.5 rpg) for eighth in the GLIAC. Jared Benson led the team with 159 rebounds (6.1rpg).  The NMU cagers finished the season 10th in the conference in assists while averaging a little more than 10 assists per game (10.3 apg).  McElroy led the team in the category with 100 (3.8 apg). NMU ranked eighth in the GLIAC in steals while averaging a little more than six steals per game (6.3 spg). Chris Warner led the team with 41 steals (1.5 spg).  NMU as a team averaged over three blocks per contest (3.5 bpg) for second in the conference.  Benson led the ‘Cats with 36 blocks (1.3 bpg).  
Three ‘Cats were selected to one of the GLIAC post-season teams.   Renelique was named to the GLIAC North Division All-Conference First Team while McElroy was named to the second team.  Warner was named to the GLIAC North Division All-Conference Defensive Team. In addition, both Renelique and McElroy were named as a GLIAC North Division Player of the Week during the season.
