Erik Gustafsson Signs Future Contract With Flyers
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that junior defenseman Erik Gustafsson from the Northern Michigan University hockey team has signed a future contract which will begin at the start of the 2010-11 season, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.
Gustafsson recently completed his third season in a Wildcat uniform. For the 2009-10 season he recorded 32 points on three goals and 29 assists. Gustafsson served as the team captain for the past season while also leading all Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) defenseman in scoring, while his assists led all CCHA defensemen and tied for third overall among all CCHA players. He was named the CCHA’s Best Offensive Defenseman for the past two seasons (2008-09 and 2009-10).
Gustafsson appeared in 123 games in his NMU career as he recorded 93 points on seven goals and 86 assists. He was a two-time first-team selection to the CCHA All-Conference Team.
“We are proud of Erik as he has done a great job for the program,” said Walt Kyle, head hockey coach at NMU. “He did everything possible to make this program competitive.”
