DETROIT, Mich. – At the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Awards Banquet Thursday night at the Fox Theatre in Detroit the top 10 candidates were announced for the 2010 Hobey Baker Award, honoring college hockey’s top player.
Making the list was junior forward, Mark Olver from the Northern Michigan University hockey team. He was a first-team selection to the CCHA All-Conference Team for the 2009-10 season. Olver led the conference in scoring with 35 points on 17 goals and 18 assists. Overall, Olver currently has 47 points (19-28) which currently ranks him 12th nationally. The Colorado draft pick was the CCHA’s Player of the Month for February.
The 10 finalists were selected by voting from all 58 NCAA Division I college hockey head coaches and by on-line fan balloting at http://www.hobeybaker.com. Next, the 24-member Hobey Baker Selection Committee and an additional round of fan balloting (http://www.hobeybaker.com from March 19-28) will determine this year’s Hobey Baker winner. Criteria for the award include: strength of character on and off the ice, displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.
The Hobey Hat Trick of three finalists will be announced March 31, 2010 and the Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 9, 2010 from Ford Field in Detroit, Mich., during the NCAA Frozen Four. The announcement will be aired live on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern).
