2010 CCHA Championship


MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team for the seventh time in the past eight years, and the third consecutive year, under Walt Kyle have advanced to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Championship. NMU (19-11-8, 13-9-6-3 CCHA), the third seed in the tournament, will face the second seed Ferris State Bulldogs (21-11-6, 13-9-6-4 CCHA); Friday afternoon (March 19) in the first semifinal game at 4:35 p.m. Miami (26-6-7, 21-2-5-2 CCHA), the number one seed, faces Michigan (23-17-1, 14-13-1-0 CCHA), the fourth seed, in the second semifinal game Friday with the puck dropping at 8:05 p.m. The third-place game is set for Saturday (March 20) at 3:35 p.m. with the championship game to follow at 7:35 p.m.
The ‘Cats and Bulldogs met twice during the regular season (Feb. 5-6) in Big Rapids, Mich. as NMU won the shootout Friday night and then picked up a 4-0 victory Saturday night. Against Miami during the 2009-10 regular season the RedHawks swept the ‘Cats in Marquette (Oct. 30-31) by scores of 4-3 and 2-1. NMU and Michigan split at Yost Ice Arena the weekend of Feb. 19-20 with the ’Cats taking the first game (3-1) and the Wolverines the second game (5-4).
The Point (100.3 FM) will carry all the ‘Cats games from Detroit.
