FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Erik Gustafsson has been selected by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) as one of the top three award finalist for three different awards. The six major awards will be presented Thursday, March 18 at the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit. Awards given out that night will be the RBC Player of the Year, the Coach of the Year, CCM Rookie of the Year, Best Offensive Defenseman, Best Defensive Defenseman and the Best Defensive Forward.
Gustafsson played in all 28 conference games during the 2009-10 season and recorded 22 points to lead all CCHA defenseman in scoring. The Kvissleby, Sweden native was second in the CCHA in assists (21) and tied for third in power-play points (15). He was named a first-team selection to the All-CCHA Team earlier in the week.
Gustafsson is a finalist for the RBC Player of the Year, Best Offensive Defenseman and the Best Defensive Defenseman awards. Last year, Gustafsson took home the Best Offensive Defenseman Award.
