STEAMBOAT SPRING, Colo. - The second day of the NCAA Skiing Championships is history as it was the first day of competition for the Nordic skiers.   Today in the women’s 5K classic race Laura DeWitt was the top placing Wildcat in the race. Currently the Wildcats sit in 12th place with 88.0 points. Leading the event after two days of skiing  is the University of Denver with 420.0 points. Team scores are a combined men and women (alpine and Nordic).   
DeWitt finished the race with a time of 17:19.4 which was good for eighth place and All-American status. Two other skiers from NMU were in the race. Monica Markvardsen was 24th (18:27.5) with teammate Christina Gillis 37th (19:44.0).
The skiers will compete next in the 15K freestyle race Saturday (March 13).
