MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University women’s soccer head coach, Matt Granstrand, announces five high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to play for NMU beginning in the fall of 2010. The following student-athletes have signed: Carolynn Cosan, Taylor Hager, Kaylagh Hollen, Nicole Musi and Ashley Nicholas.
“I think this is an exciting class that will fit in well with our returning players. I am expecting them to step in right away and contribute to what I expect will be a great year,” said Granstrand. ’This is an athletic group that also excels academically, but most importantly it is a quality group of young ladies.”
Cosan a forward/midfielder from Mt. Pleasant High School in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. She played on two club teams, Vardar North and MP United. In addition to soccer, Cosan ran cross country and was named to the academic all-conference team in both sports.
Hager a forward/midfielder from Shanley High School in Fargo, N.D. She played club soccer for the Red River Starz. Hager was named to the first team all-conference, the state all-tournament and the all-state teams.
Hollen played sweeper/center back from Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria, Minn. Played club soccer for the Edina Fusion Premier. Hollen was a two-time (2008-09) team MVP and captain of her high school team. She was also an all-conference and Olympic Development Program (ODP) player. Furthermore, she was a standout in basketball where she was named all-conference and team captain.
Musi a midfield/forward from Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. During her time with her club team, Citadel FC, she was named as the player of the year. Musi also played for the Ranger FC Premiere team.
Nicholas, from Wrightstown High School in Wrightstown, Wis., played as a forward. Her club team was FC Green Bay. Nicholas was a two-time all-conference player and an ODP layer.
