MARQUETTE, Mich. – It will be a quiet weekend around the Northern Michigan University campus as all the teams currently in season are out of town.
The men’s (10-12, 7-11 GLIAC) and women’s (17-6, 14-4 GLIAC) basketball teams travel to Hillsdale, Mich. and Findlay, Ohio to take on the Chargers and Oilers respectively. Thursday (Feb. 18) the teams are in Hillsdale to face the Chargers. The women’s game begins the night’s doubleheader with a 6 p.m. start which will be followed by the men’s game at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 20) after a day off the Wildcats hit the Croy Gym court for a date with the Oilers. The women’s game is at 1 p.m. which will be followed by the men’s game at approximately 3 p.m.
This is the second go around for the ‘Cats against the Chargers and Oilers. A couple of weeks ago in Marquette the NMU women’s team defeated Hillsdale (77-73) and lost to Findlay (83-80 OT). The men’s team lost both games against the Chargers (78-62) and Oilers (71-66).
Hockey (14-10-8, 10-8-6-3 CCHA) is on the road to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on the Michigan Wolverines in its final road trip for the 2009-10 regular season. NMU faces the Wolverines Friday and Saturday (Feb. 19-20) nights at 7:35 p.m. each night. The ‘Cats currently in a tie for fifth place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings are still in the mix for a first-round bye for the playoffs. The top four teams at the end of the regular season received a bye in the first round.
Friday’s game will be shown live on Fox Sports Detroit Plus and streamed off of the Foxsportsdetroit.com web site. In Marquette and surrounding area the channel to watch on Charter is 88 while it is channel 51 on the City of Negaunee cable system. For satellite viewers with DirectTV it is channel 664 and channel 449 for Dish Network subscribers.
All basketball and hockey games can be heard on The Point (100.3 FM) as well on a stream off the NMU athletic web site (http://webb.nmu.edu/SportsAthletics/).
The men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will have its final tune-up before the NCAA Skiing Championships this weekend (Feb. 20-21) at the NCAA Regional Championships which will be held up the road in Houghton, Mich. at Michigan Tech.
