NMU Announces 2010 Football Schedule

 

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team announces its 2010 schedule. NMU will play 10 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games and a non-conference clash, for an 11-game slate. The Wildcats open the season at MSU-Mankato, Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. This is the first game of a two-year home-and-home series with the Mavericks with a return date at the Superior Dome set for Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Mankato is coming off a 10-2 campaign in 2009 and were ranked 12th in the final American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Poll. The Mavericks lost (27-24 OT) to fellow GLIAC member Hillsdale College in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Playoffs.
The first home game on the schedule is against Findlay, Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. That day will also be the Fall Sports Kickoff in front of the Superior Dome. The following week the Wildcats are on the road to face the Timberwolves of Northwood, Sept. 18 at noon. The final Saturday in September (Sept. 25) the ‘Cats are at home to face the Eagles of Ashland University at 4 p.m. for Homecoming.
The first two Saturdays in October the ‘Cats are away from Marquette. NMU crosses the bridge to the Motor City to face Wayne State, Oct. 2 with a noon kickoff.   The following week (Oct. 9) the team travels to Allendale, Mich. to face perennial NCAA Division II power, Grand Valley State for a 7 p.m. contest.
Two of NMU’s next three games are inside the Superior Dome. For Family Weekend (Oct. 16) the ‘Cats face Ferris State at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds of Indianapolis visit the following week (Oct. 23) for another 1 p.m. clash which is also Band Day. The final Saturday in October the ‘Cats are in Tiffin, Ohio for a date with the Dragons at 1:30 p.m.
November finds the NMU football team at home the first Saturday of the month (Nov. 6) against Saginaw Valley State for Senior Day at 1 p.m. The ‘Cats conclude the regular season with a trek up to Houghton (Nov. 13) to face the Michigan Tech Huskies at 1 p.m. for the rights to the Miner’s Cup.
