DETROIT, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team concluded the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships with 212 points which was good for eighth place. Wayne State won the women’s side of the meet with 901.5 points.
Sarah Cempel placed 15th in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:01.65. Ana Alzaga swam a 2:09.30 in the 200 backstroke which was good for sixth place. Also scoring points for the Wildcats in the event was Ashley Backman who was 16th (2:16.72).
The 200 breaststroke saw Olga Budiansky place seventh in the event as she touched the wall with a time of 2:26.59. The final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, the NMU relay of Alzaga, Gina Haas, Lauren Cockels and Lindsay Stedman swam a 3:51.41 for eighth.
