ISHPEMING, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s Nordic ski team claimed four spots in the top 10 Saturday at the Central College Ski Association (CCSA) Championships. Today’s race was the 5K classic. As a team NMU scored 82 points with Alaska (Fairbanks) second with 75.
Christina Gillis led the Wildcats with a second-place showing as she covered the course in a time of 14:35.1. Two spots back was Laura DeWitt in fourth (14:45.5). The third NMU skier in the top 10 was Marie Helen Soderman with a time of 14:58.8 which was good for fifth place. The fourth and final skier in the top 10 was Monica Markvardsen in seventh place (14:59.4).
Ingrid Fjeldheim was 13th (15:36.2), Anna Bergland 17th (15:44.7) and Libby Ellis 18th (15:45.5) for the ‘Cats. Back in the pack was Caitlin Cassidy 25th (16:12.8) and Karmen Whitham 27th (16:16.1) and Molly Berger 35th (16:29.5).  Rosie Frankowski placed 38th for the ‘Cats (16:33.4). 
The women will compete in the 15K freestyle event Sunday (Feb. 14).
