MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s basketball teams are the only Wildcat squads staying in Marquette this week. Both teams begin a stretch of playing six of its next eight games at the Berry Events Center. The NMU hockey team along with track and field are hitting the road this weekend.
The men’s (8-10, 5-9 GLIAC) and women’s (14-5, 11-3 GLIAC) basketball teams are returning home to the Berry Events Center for a four-game home stand as they first host the Eagles of Ashland. Tip is scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 4) at 5:30 p. m. for the women followed by the men at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both teams will continue its home game stretch as they face the Tiffin Dragons Saturday (Feb. 6) at 1 p.m. for the women and approximately 3 p.m. for the men.
The NMU men’s basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak as they squeaked by Grand Valley State last Saturday, 61-58. The NMU women’s basketball team is riding a five game winning streak as they defeated the Lakers, 66-54. The NMU women are currently tied for second place in the GLIAC North Division.
The Northern Michigan University hockey team (11-10-7, 7-8-5-2 CCHA) will head to Big Rapids, Mich. to face the Bulldogs of Ferris State Friday (Feb. 5) and Saturday (Feb. 6). The puck drop for Friday’s game is scheduled at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday at 7:35 p.m. This will be the only meeting between the two teams this season. The Wildcats will be coming to Ferris State with a shoot out win and a 3-2 victory against Alaska last week. Saturday’s game will be televised by FS Plus/FoxSportsDetroit.com. The game will be available on the following channels: DirectTV (664), Dish (448), Charter Communications (88) and City of Negaunee (51).

The Wildcat track and field team will be back in action as they travel to Stevens Point, Wis. to compete at the Pointer Invitational (Feb. 5-6). NMU is coming off a performance in its lone home meet the Northern Challenge Jan. 23. So far, this season the ‘Cats have competed at the St. Scholastica Mini Meet in Duluth, Minn. and at the LSSU Classic in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
