MARQUETTE – The United States Olympic Education Center’s men’s Greco-Roman wrestling team will compete in the Dave Schultz Memorial International Feb. 3-6 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Head Greco-Roman wrestling coach Dennis Hall hopes this competition will be a good measurement for the athletes to see where they are at.
“We get to see some great competition,” says Hall. “We get the chance to wrestle international athletes and get a feel for their style, because its different than wrestling Americans. As long as we learn out there and get some experience to take back home with us, I don’t care about winning and losing.”
Assistant Greco-Roman wrestling coach Willie Madison says the team has been well-prepared for this tournament.
“We have been training hard as we always do, sticking to the plan of building a strong mind and sound body,” says Madison. “We’ve been working a lot on situations that they will see in the tournament.”
Greco-Roman wrestlers competing in the Dave Schultz Memorial International are Northern Michigan University freshman Josh Castellano (Wood Dale, Ill.); sophomores Max Nowry (Wheeling Ill.), Tanner Andrews (North Aurora, Ill.), Alex Fleming (Sterling, Va.), Ryan Hope (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Cory Hope (Carol Stream, Ill.); junior Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn.); seniors Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.), Chaz Betts (St. Michael, Minn.), Andy Bisek (Chaska, Minn.), Kerry Regner (Darlington, Pa.), Pete Gounaridis (Leominster, Mass.) and Mark Stenberg (Silverton, Ore.); and post-baccalaureate student Nate Englel (St. Helena, Calif).
