CABLE, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University men’s Nordic ski team with three skiers in the top 10 finished in second place as a team in the 15K freestyle race Sunday at the Telemark SuperTour event. Michigan Tech took the men’s title with 77 points as the Wildcats registered 74. The NMU men were second with 154 points for the two days of skating as Michigan Tech had the top men’s team with 155. For the weekend the NMU men’s and women’s team took the combined team score with 320 points, which was 15 more than second place Michigan Tech (305).
George Cartwright led the men Sunday with a second-place showing with a time of 39:41.7. Tim Cook was the next ‘Cat to skate across the finish line in eighth place with a time of 40:52.9. About seven seconds back was teammate Chris Bowler in ninth (40:59.7). Ben Hugus, the final ‘Cat in the race, had a time of 41:43.3 was 13th.
The team will take this weekend off before hosting the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships the weekend of Feb. 13-14 at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.
