MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Northern Michigan University women’s Nordic ski team competed the second day of the Central SuperTour event Sunday as the team skated the 10K classic race.
The top finishing Wildcat in the event was Laura DeWitt in seventh place overall with a time of 30:42.1. DeWitt’s time placed her second in the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) division. Newcomer, Monica Markvardsen placed 14th as she crossed the finish line with a time of 31:27.0. About two seconds back was teammate Marie Helen Soderman (31:29.1, 15th). Christina Gillis had a top 20 finish with a time of 31:41.4 for 17th.
Karmen Whitham led a trio of NMU skiers. She was 29th (32:50.3) with Ingrid Fjeldheim next (33:00.7, 30th) and Caitlin Cassidy (33:04.9, 31st). Libby Ellis was 31st (33:50.9) with teammate Anna Bergland 47th (34:35.2). Kristen Fjeldheim was the next ‘cat as she was 59th (35:23.1) with Molly Burger 66th (35:54.2).
In the women’s overall standings for the weekend NMU skated away with the team title with 141 points. In the combined overall score the ‘Cats were first with 266 points.
The team will be hitting the trails next at the Central SuperTour event in Cable, Wis. the weekend of Jan. 30-31.
