STEVENS POINT, Wis. – After the first day at the UW-Stevens Point Invite the Northern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team is currently in eighth place with 111 points after 20 events. UW-La Crosse leads the women’s team race with 400 points.
NMU took the first race of the day which was the 200-yard freestyle relay as Sarah Cempel, Jenny Gallagher, Jackie Walsh and Stephanie Rogaczewski swam a 1:28.81. In the 100 backstroke, Gaby Alzaga placed fourth (1:01.29) while teammate Ashley Backman was 15th (1:05.03).
Olga Budiansky captured the 200 breaststroke as she touched the wall with a time of 2:27.17. The 400 medley relay of Alsaga, Budiansky, Lindsay Stedman and Kelsey Sipple placed 12th with a time of 4:17.60. Kelli Vander Baan won the 3-meter board with a score of 422.15.
The second and final day of the meet will be Saturday (Jan. 23).
