 MARQUETTE, Mich. – The second tripleheader of the season highlights this week’s Northern Michigan University athletic schedule. Three NMU teams will be in action Saturday at the Berry. But before Saturday there are events with NMU teams in action.

Hockey (9-8-4, 5-6-3-0 CCHA) has a busy week with three games on its schedule. The Wildcats travel to Houghton, Mich. Tuesday night (Jan. 12) to take on for the third time this season the Michigan Tech Huskies with the puck dropping at 7:07 p.m. The teams have split the first two meetings with the Huskies taking the first game in Houghton, 5-3, in early October. Before Christmas the ‘Cats defeated MTU in Marquette by scoring the game-winning goal with about a minute left in the game for the 2-1 decision.
The ‘Cats come back home for a weekend Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA)clash against the Bowling Green State University Falcons Friday and Saturday nights (Jan. 15-16) with the puck dropping each night at 7:35 p.m. Friday before the game there will be a Blue Line Club Luncheon in the University Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. The event is open to the public with the cost of the luncheon $8.50 per person. Scheduled to speak are NMU head coach Walt Kyle along with BGSU coach Dennis Williams. Also selected Wildcats will be on hand. Before Saturday’s game (Jan. 16) there will be a Blue Line/Wildcat Club member social in the Wildcat Room beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Men’s (7-5, 4-4 GLIAC) and women’s (9-4, 6-2 GLIAC) basketball returns home after spending the past three games on the road. Thursday (Jan. 14) the teams will face the University of Findlay Oilers with the women’s game beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s contest to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Findlay men are the defending NCAA Division II National Champions. 
Saturday (Jan. 16) is the marathon session at the Berry with the tripleheader. Women’s basketball begins the day with an 11 a.m. tip off against the Hillsdale College Chargers the men’s game will follow at approximately 1 p.m. After a couple of hours to convert for hockey the NMU hockey team will face the BGSU Falcons in the second game of the weekend tilt at 7:35 p.m.
The NMU women’s indoor track and field team will begin the New Year by traveling to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. to compete at the Lake Superior State University Classic Saturday (Jan. 16).
