Women Nordic Skiers Wrap Up Championships

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Northern Michigan University women’s Nordic ski team completed competition at the 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. Cross Country Championships.
Laura DeWitt led the Wildcats in the 20K mass start classic race. DeWitt finished in 16th place as she covered the course with a time of 1:19:24.8. Christina Gillis was the next ‘Cat to skate across the finish line with a time of 1:20:54.0 for 24th. Ingrid Fjeldheim finished 33rd with a time of 1:24:05.5. Caitlin Cassidy with a time of 1:32:19.4 finished 58th
Gillis led the squad in the final event of the competition which was the classic sprint. Gillis was one of two ‘Cats to place in the top 30. She placed 12th with a time of 3:42.27 with teammate DeWitt 27th (3:50.60). Libby Ellis was 71st with a time of 4:08.75. Karmen Whitham had a time of 4:10.42 for 80th. Cassidy was the final ‘Cat to skate across the finish line in 86th with a time of 4:13.14.
In the U.S. Ski Team World Junior overall ranking list, Monica Markvardsen finished in eighth place. 
As a team the ‘Cats will resume its collegiate schedule Jan. 23-24 at the Central SuperTour in Minneapolis, Minn.
