ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Northern Michigan University men’s Nordic ski team currently has two days in at the 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. Cross Country Championships.
George Cartwright led the NMU skiers on the first day of the competition with a time of 3:02.71 in the sprint freestyle event which was good for 28th. Kevin Cutts was next for NMU as he was 33rd (3:02.92). Ben Hugus was 56th (3:08.94) with teammate Chris Bowler six places back in 62nd (3:10.68). The final NMU skier in the event was Tim Cook as he finished 68th (3:12.02).
Cartwright again led the ‘Cat skiers the second day of the competition which was the 15K freestyle event. He covered the course in a time of 40:57.3 for 33rd. Cutts was next for NMU in 43rd (41:31.3) with teammate Cook 56th (42:28.8). Bowler skated the course in a time of 45:02.9 which was good for 95th. The final skier for the ‘Cats was Hugus with a time of 46:23.2 as he placed 109th.
There are two more days of competition at the championships. Wednesday (Jan. 6) the men compete in the 30K classic mass start and then Friday (Jan. 8) the final day of the competition it is the classic sprint qualification and finals.
