HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s Nordic ski team opened up the 2009-10 schedule Saturday at the Michigan Tech Challenge. NMU had four skiers skated to top 10 finishes. Saturday’s event was the 10K freestyle race.
Newcomer George Cartwright was third overall with a clocking of 30:36.3. Tim Cook was the next Wildcat to skate across the finish line in fifth place with a time of 30:58.1. Chris Bowler was seventh (31:52.9) as he was followed by Tom McFadden 10th (32:22.6). Kevin Cutts just missed a top 10 finish as he was 11th (32:36.8). Finishing 15th was Ben Hugus (33:34.4).
NMU tallied 17 team points to earn the team title. Michigan Tech was second (15) and UW-Green Bay third (13).
The team will race in the classic event tomorrow at Michigan Tech.
