DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University women’s indoor track and field team opened up its season Saturday at the St. Scholastica Mini-Meet. The meet was a non-scoring affair.
Becky Rotter running in her first meet as a Wildcat placed second in the 300-meter dash (43.69) while another rookie Colby West was seventh (46.71). Maegan Hendershot (1:40.48) and Erin VanEnkevort (1:43.23) went one-two in the 600 run.
NMU had the top three finishers in the 55 dash as Catherine Angeli was first (7.55), Brittnee Balbierz second (7.57) and Alyssa Erspamer third (7.71). In the 55 hurdles, Melissa Christensen won the event with a time of 8.88 while teammate Bailey Franklin was second (9.04).
Angeli (27.04), Balbierz (27.59) and Ersparmer (27.62) were second, third and fourth in the 200 dash. The 4x400 relay of Franklin, Brooke Granquist, VanEnkevort and Hendershot were second with a time of 4:17.64. NMU won the 4x200 relay as Erspamer, Balbierz, Christensen and Angeli ran a 1:51.92.
Erin Astle won the high jump with a leap of 4-11.75. Also in the high jump Granquist was third (4-09.75) and Franklin fourth (4-07.75). Karin Diebold captured the pole vault with a vault of 10-02.00 while teammate Lindsay Balutis was third (8-04.25). Franklin (35-11.25) and Christensen (33-08.00) were the top two finishers in the triple jump.
Also in the field events, Mariah Beaman was second in the shot put with a throw of 36-02.75) and Krista Squiers won the weight throw (56-08.75).
NMU will not compete again until January when the team will be at the LSSU Classic (Jan. 16).
