MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team saw its six-game unbeaten streak snapped Friday night by the Michigan State Spartans. For a little over two-and-a-half periods the game was very close. MSU score the only goal of the game for a 1-0 victory.
NMU drops to 5-6-4 overall and 4-4-3-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). The Spartans improve to 10-5-2 and 7-2-2-0 respectively.
The only goal of the game was scored by MSU’s Corey Tropp at 13:53 of the third period from Derek Grant. NMU had an 11-7 shot advantage in the first period and registered only one shot in the middle frame and ended the game with 20 total shots. MSU on the other had ended the game with 37 total.
MSU was 0-6 on the power play while NMU was 0-2. Brian Stewart had 36 saves between the pipes for the ‘Cats. Bobby Jarosz registered 20 saves for the night.
The two teams will play the back end of the two-game set tomorrow night (Dec. 5) at 7:35 p.m. at the Berry Events Center.
