GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team sits in eighth place with 10 points after the first day of the Calvin Winter Invitational. Grand Valley State leads the women’s competition with 142 points.
The NMU 800-yard freestyle relay of Elyse Sawka, Sarah Cempel, Michele Kolin and Lindsay Stedman swam an 8:26.27 for 12th place. Individually in the 1,650 race Sarah Cempel was 20th with a time of 18:56.4 while teammate Sawka was next with a time of 19:14.40.   
The second day of the invitational will be Friday, Dec. 4.
