MARQUETTE, Mich. – Dean Ellis, the head men’s basketball coach at Northern Michigan University, announces a student-athlete has signed during the early signing period to join the NMU men’s basketball team. Matt Craggs has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Wildcats beginning next fall. In the classroom, Craggs carries a 3.7 grade-point average.
Craggs (6-6, F) from Kimberly, Wis. (Kimberly High School) averaged 15 points an outing during his junior season. He was a first team All-Fox Valley Association (FVA) selection last year. Craggs was the lone junior named to the squad. He is ranked as the 17th senior in the state of Wisconsin according to WisSports.net.
"Matt is an outstanding athlete and competitor. He has competed at a very high level in both basketball and football during his high school career at Kimberly High School. His commitment to basketball had him turn down a number of Division I football opportunities,” said Ellis. “On the basketball court he has the ability to make the game slow and simple. At 6-6 he is a very versatile player that is able to score from the three-point line as well as in the paint. He is an outstanding student and will become a very valuable member of our basketball program."
On the gridiron, Craggs was an outstanding outside linebacker and wide receiver. His high school football team played in three consecutive state title games. His team won state title when he was a sophomore and junior. This past season his team was runner-up.
