MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team will take center stage this week at the Berry Events Center. Women’s basketball and hockey are both on the road before and after Thanksgiving.
Men’s basketball (0-1) will have its home opener Tuesday night (Nov. 24) against Northland College at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats come back Monday (Nov. 30) and face the Lions of Finlandia University also at 7:30 p.m. NMU has played games against two NCAA Division I opponents so far this season. The ‘Cats lost to the University of Michigan in an exhibition game and to UW-Green Bay last week.
Women’s basketball (1-0) hits the road for two games this week. First up is a clash with the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth Tuesday night (Nov. 24) at 7 p.m. After Thanksgiving the ‘Cats pay a visit to Kenosha, Wis. to tangle with the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday afternoon (Nov. 28) at 4 p.m. NMU will not have its home opener until facing the Northwood Timberwolves, Dec. 3. The ‘Cats have only played once so far this season as they picked up a win over Northland College Nov. 15.
The NMU hockey team (5-5-2, 4-3-1-0 CCHA) takes its longest road trip of the season to Fairbanks, Alaska to tangle with the Nanooks. NMU is coming off its first sweep of the season with 5-1, 6-3 wins over Nebraska-Omaha. The puck will drop both nights (Nov. 27-28) at (Marquette time) 11:35 p.m. Both games from Alaska will be on The Point (100.3 FM).
