Hockey At Home For Lone November Weekend
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team comes home to the Berry Events Center after spending the past two weeks on the road. On the road the NMU volleyball team will look to keep its season going and qualify for the national tournament.
Men’s basketball will start things off this week with its first official game of the 2009-10 season. Saturday the Wildcats lost to the University of Michigan in an exhibition game. Wednesday night (Nov. 18 at 8 p.m.) the Wildcats take on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix. The game is available to watch live off the GreenBayPhoenix.com website for $4.99.
The NMU volleyball team (19-11) travels to Indianapolis, Ind. to participate at the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Women’s Volleyball Championships. NMU will face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Hillsdale in quarterfinal action Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. The two teams met earlier in the season in Marquette with the Wildcats taking a four-set win (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24).
The semifinals are set for Friday, Nov. 20 with the regional championship being held Saturday, Nov.21. All the matches are taking place at the University of Indianapolis. The winner of the tournament advances to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Hockey (3-5-2, 2-3-1-0 CCHA) coming off a win and a shootout loss at Notre Dame host the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in a series Friday and Saturday (Nov. 20-21) with the puck dropping at 7:35 p.m. each night. This weekend’s series is the lone home series for the ‘Cats for the month of November. Before Saturday’s game the freshman trading cards will be given out.
There will be a Blue Line Luncheon Friday, Nov. 20 beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Peter White Lounge of the University Center. NMU head coach Walt Kyle along with UNO’s head coach Dean Blais are expected to speak. Also selected Wildcats will speak. The cost of the luncheon is $8.50 per person.
