BAY CITY, Mich. – Linebacker Nathan Yelk led the Northern Michigan University contingent named to the 2009 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Football Team. Yelk was the lone Wildcat named to the first team. Four members of the squad were named to the second team. Five ‘Cats were selected to the honorable mention team.
The senior from Arlington, Wis. led the ‘Cats with 98 total tackles (51 solo and 47 assisted). Yelk also recorded nine tackles-for-loss (-35 yards) and two sacks (-10 yards). He picked off two passes during the 2009 season and recovered three fumbles. Yelk returned one of the fumbles for a touchdown against Wayne State.
Named to the second team were running back Mark Bossuah, wide receiver Zach Nichols, offensive lineman Jack Rustman and linebacker Zach Gauthier.
Bossuah led the ‘Cats on the ground with 720 yards on 152 carries. He had 12 of the 26 rushing touchdowns for the 2009 season. Nichols had a team-high 47 receptions for 613 yards. He hauled in eight of the 14 touchdown passes. Rustman anchored an offensive line which helped the ‘Cats average 350.7 yards of total offense per game during the 2009 season (198.3 rushing and 152.4 passing). Gauthier was second on the team with 83 total tackles for 2009 (33 solo and 50 assisted). He led the team with three interceptions. Gauthier did return one of the interceptions for a score during the season against Michigan Tech.
Matt Forward (defensive line), D.J. Oke (defensive back), Jon Otto (offensive line), Garrett Peck (punter) and Demetri Stewart (linebacker) were named honorable mention selections to the team.
