A Quiet Weekend On The NMU Campus
MARQUETTE, Mich. – It will be quiet weekend on the Northern Michigan University campus. The teams which are currently in season will all be away from Marquette.
Volleyball (18-10, 11-5 GLIAC) will face Grand Valley State for the second time in less than a week in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Volleyball Tournament. The match will take place Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in Allendale, Mich. at the GVSU Fieldhouse. The two teams met last Friday (Nov. 6) with the ‘Cats taking the four-set match (26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17). If the ‘Cats would win Wednesday night they would advance in the tournament to play in the semifinals and possibly the final Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 14-15). The matches would be held at the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
The NMU hockey team (2-5-1, 1-3-0-0 CCHA) continues with its two-series road swing. This week’s stop is in South Bend, Ind. to face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. NMU will face the Fighting Irish Saturday (Nov. 14) and Sunday (Nov. 15) with the puck dropping at 5:05 and 4:05 p.m. respectively. The series against Notre Dame is the eighth and ninth games against teams who participated in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Men’s and women’s basketball gets going this weekend. The men’s team faces the University of Michigan in an exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. The game will be available on the Big Ten Network, which is channel 62 in Marquette on Charter, 610 DIRECTV and 439 DISH. The women’s team will hit the court at Gogebic Community College and face Northland College Sunday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.
Due to a scheduling conflict this weekend with basketball and hockey the games will be split on the radio. The hockey games will be on The Point (100.3 FM) and both basketball games will be on The Bay (94.9 FM).
