BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball squad dropped its regular season finale Saturday afternoon to the Ferris State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs took the first two sets (20-25, 22-25) before NMU came back to take set three (30-28). In the end the home team won the match by taking the fourth set (17-25).
NMU will enter the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Volleyball Tournament play Wednesday (Nov. 11) with an overall record of 18-10 and an 11-5 record in conference play. Ferris is now 18-11 and 10-6 respectively. The 'Cats will travel to Allendale, Mich. to take on the Grand Valley State Lakers in the quarterfinals.
Mandie Meyer and Sami Vierk led the ‘Cats offensively with 14 and 12 kills respectively. As a team NMU recorded 47 kills in 145 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .152. Abby Lovell had 30 assists to pace the team.
Cassie Osiecki and Meyer led the ‘Cats on the defensive front with 14 and 10 digs respectively. NMU at the net had 16 block assists. Lovell led the way with five as Emma Wolfe and Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy added four each.
