COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University hockey team picked up its first Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) win of the year with a 1-0 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes Friday night. NMU outshot OSU by a 35-32 number in picking up the win.
The Wildcats improve to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-0-0 in conference play. OSU falls to 2-6-1 and 1-3-1-1 respectively.
Mark Olver scored the lone goal of the game 22 seconds into the contest on an assist from Phil Fox. The goal held up for over 59 minutes of play for the ‘Cats to pick up the win. Olver leads the team with five goals.
Reid Ellingson, picked up first star of the game honors, with his first career shutout. He turned away 32 shots which tied a career high. He also had 32 saves earlier this season against Minnesota-Duluth. OSU’s goaltender Dustin Carlson had 34 saves in the loss.
NMU was 0-2 on the power play while the home team was 0-5 with the extra skater.
The two teams will skate again for the second game of the weekend series tomorrow night (Saturday, Nov. 7) at 7:05 p.m.
