HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball squad saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon at Michigan Tech. NMU took two of the first three sets with wins in sets two (25-19) and three (25-23) while the Huskies won the first set (14-25). MTU then rattled off wins in sets four (19-25) and five (7-15) to take the match.
With the loss the Wildcats are now 17-9 overall and 10-4 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. MTU improves to 13-12 and 9-5 respectively.
Mandie Meyer led the ‘Cats in the kill department with a match-high 24. Katt Garvick added 13. As a team NMU had 54 kills in 158 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .171. Abby Lovell passed the ball for 45 assists. Meyer also had three service aces and 12 digs.
On the defensive front Cassie Osiecki added 18 digs while teammate Lovell had 12. At the net NMU recorded 10 block solos as a team. Emma Wolfe had a team-high three while Garvick and Katie Twardzik added two each.
NMU will spend the final week of the regular season on the road with matches at Grand Valley State (Nov. 6) and Ferris State (Nov. 7).
