Wildcats Head Into GLIAC Tournament
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team concluded the 2009 regular season on a high note as the Wildcats defeated the Ashland Eagles 1-0 Saturday afternoon. NMU ends the regular season with an overall record of 9-8-1 and a 7-6-1 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. Ashland ends the season at 3-13-3 and 0-12-2 respectively. The ‘Cats host the University of Findlay Oilers Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.) in the first round of the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Tournament.
Dana Stephens scored the lone goal on the afternoon as she headed the ball into the back of the net at the 39 minute mark. Joanna Kiilunen assisted on the goal. For Stephens it was her team-high 10th goal of the season. Kara Music recorded her third shutout of the season and the 21st in her career. She currently holds the NMU career record for shutouts. Music had three saves for the game.
NMU had 15 shots for the game with five being on-goal. Ashland had eight total shots with five on-goal. The ‘Cats had six corner kicks to four for the Eagles.
