'Cats Picked Sixth In GLIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

 

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team was selected to finish sixth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division for the 2009-10 season. The preseason poll was selected by the GLIAC Sports Information Directors and selected members of the media. Grand Valley State and the University of Findlay were picked to win the GLIAC North and South Division titles respectively. Findlay claimed the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship and finished the 2008-09 season 36-0. Grand Valley State advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fourth consecutive year last year. 
NMU received 36 points in the balloting. The Lakers picked up 17 first-place votes and 130 overall. Ferris State, with two first-place votes, was selected second with 107 points followed by Lake Superior State (94) as they had four first-place votes. The Huskies of Michigan Tech were picked fourth with 84 points as they picked up a first-place vote and then Saginaw Valley State (51).
The Oilers were picked first on 22 ballots and picked up 140 points. Hillsdale was picked second with 109 points with two first-place votes. Picked third in the GLIAC South was Northwood with 85 points. Wayne State fourth (81), Ashland fifth (63) and Tiffin sixth (26) round out the division.
