Wildcats Selected Fifth In GLIAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

 

 

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division for the 2009-10 season. The preseason poll was selected by the GLIAC Sports Information Directors and selected members of the media.  Michigan Tech and Northwood were tabbed to win the GLIAC North and South Division titles respectively. The Huskies return all five starters from an NCAA Division II Elite Eight team from a year ago, enters the season as the nation’s top ranked team. Northwood participated in the NCAA Tournament for the first time last year.  

NMU received 67 points in the voting.  The Huskies claimed 22 first-place votes and 142 overall for the top spot. Grand Valley State was selected second with 122 points and two first-place votes. Ferris State with 74 points was third followed by Lake Superior State (72), NMU and Saginaw Valley State (27).
The Timberwolves collected 128 points overall with 16 first-place votes. Hillsdale received 125 points with seven first-place votes for second. Findlay was third with 90 points and a first-place vote. Finishing off the division was Ashland fourth (83), Wayne State fifth (44) and Tiffin sixth (34).
