MARQUETTE, Mich. – On a cold, raining day the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team found a ray of sunshine in the 2-0 win over The University of Findlay Oilers. With the win the Wildcats improve to 8-7-1 overall on the season and 6-5-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. UF falls to 4-9-2 and 3-7-2 respectively.
The first 63 minutes of the game was a scoreless affair before Ashley DeKeyser found the back of the net at 63:48 for her fourth goal of the season. Kari Buckel assisted on the goal. With under a minute left in the game (89:06), Dana Stephens scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Joanna Kiilunen assisted on the goal.
Kara Music registered her 20th career shutout and her second of the season with five saves. Music holds the NMU career record for shutouts.
NMU tallied 16 shots for the game with 13 on-goal. UF had 10 shots for the afternoon with five on-goal. The Oilers had the edge on corner kicks with a six to three slate.
NMU will face the Tiffin Dragons Sunday (Oct. 25) afternoon at noon in its next outing.
